I had a really tough time coming to terms with my little baby boy hitting this first major milestone. I was in deep denial that an entire year had gone by since I had held him in my arms for the first time. That, combined with the knowledge that I’d be heading back to work really effected me leading up to his big day. So, planning this party honestly helped me to feel some excitement about the whole thing. I’m so pleased with how it all turned out. The party, the people, and most of all, my first year of being a mommy to my baby.
Anyone who knows me will tell you, I love to host a party. I do. Entertaining is my thing! I love being the hostess and putting together an event that guests will be wowed by and enjoy thoroughly. I admit, this part was more for mom and dad than it was about the little guy who won’t ever remember it, but it was SO fun to come up with a theme and execute.
Before Luca was born, a dear friend gifted us the entire original collection of Beatrix Potter books that she had been collecting and hunting for at flee markets and book stores. It was such a special and thoughtful gift, I knew we had to incorporate it and Peter Rabbit seemed like the perfect choice with Easter coming up.
I’m so pleased with how it turned out and was so overcome with emotion at the amount of love that was in our house that day. We have such amazing friends and family who never once scoffed at a big first birthday blow-out – in fact, they encouraged it and wanted to be part of it! I love them for it, and I love that they love our boy like he’s their own.
I love that he’ll be able to look back on these photos for years to come (and probably roll his eyes) and know how special everyone thinks he is…
Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this party what it was and who came to celebrate our little man. You mean the world to us and he is so lucky to have y’all in his life.
