Who else is getting excited for Canada Day??!! The July 1st long weekend is always something to look forward to, but this year I think it’s safe to say that the festivities are going to be bigger and better than ever before. Canada is turning 150 and the prep for the big day can be seen all across Canada with impressive pop-ups and imagery. I have to say, I haven’t always been inspired to bust out the Canadiana and combat the crowds, but this year, whether it’s because it’s such a milestone or because I’m raising my own little Canadian, I’m feeling all kinds of festive!
Ask any new mother on mat leave what the greatest invention in the last 20 years has been and there will be a resounding cheer for online shopping. Because now that I have a kid and showers are far and few between, I like that I can still engage in some retail therapy without having to pretend that I have it all together on the days when I really don’t.
Y’all. Autumn is my favourite season. And maybe because I live in a place where any season other than Winter is short lived, I try to hold on for as long as possible. I mean, it has already snowed and dropped to temperatures below zero here… Calgary winters are no joke. So, every day that we get a snow free, double digit temp day, I take advantage of my fall wardrobe and the ability to wear a knit instead of a parka and cute booties instead of weather appropriate, fuzzy boots.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been a devout Joe Fresh enthusiast pretty much from day one. You can’t beat their prices and the styles are always on trend and super cute.
I KNEW they were going to take all of my money when I had a baby and I have not been proven wrong. Especially this season, a) because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Fall and b) because Luca is at a really fun age to dress. His personality is starting to really shine through and weirdly, I can totally choose clothes based on what I think suits him and what doesn’t. And ok, some of it is just to please Mama, OK!?
I’ve rounded up my fave pieces from the Fall 2016 Joe Fresh look book and even coerced Luca into modelling some of the looks for ya’ll because I’m really zeroing in on my stage-mom skills early :p Enjoy!
I ordered this super cute maternity dress WAY close to my due date, and since Luca ended up being born a week early I never had the opportunity to wear it. So, when my bestie needed something to wear for her maternity photos I offered up this adorable number! PinkBlush Maternity and specifically, their maternity dresses were a staple for me when I was pregnant. I even bought the cutest brown leather and fringe cross body bag from their non-maternity line that I get complimented on ALL OF THE TIME (similar here). It’s so hard to find cute pregnancy clothes these days and seriously, this place is a one-stop-shop for all of your maternity needs!
What got me about this sweet little dress was the pretty pattern, colour and the knowledge that it would work after I had the babe as well, thanks to the empire waist! Although, I do think the baby belly really brings it to life.
I love that Jess wore the dress with simplicity and the location in mind. Just a pair of simple nude sandals and light hair and makeup for a day by the river served up the perfect combination to document this amazing moment in her and Justin’s life. She’s such a natural beauty, so the dress didn’t do anything but accentuate that and her lovely surroundings here in YYC!
I’m happy to announce that these sweet love birds welcomed their beautiful little girl, Miss Julia Ann, on June 22! I hope y’all enjoy these images as much as I do.
